Reviews and Ratings
The motel had its ups and downs. On the positive side, it was conveniently located near the beach and offered off-street parking. However, issues like the strong smell of smoke in the rooms and disruptive noise from a nearby party brought down the overall experience for us.
The hotel rooms were pretty clean and decent, although a bit tired. The pub onsite and thin walls between rooms impacted the overall experience slightly as the noise could be an issue. The room size was smaller than expected based on the website description.
The hotel is conveniently located close to St Clair beach and cafes, making it perfect for our needs with clean and tidy rooms. While the rooms are basically situated in a pub car park and next to the outdoor seating/smoking area, they have everything we needed, including cutlery, plates, and a toaster, which is a great addition. However, it's evident that the rooms had previous smokers. The staff are well aware of the bathroom's need for extractor fans, but they were friendly and accommodating, even providing a different unit and loaning us a microwave to enhance our stay. The location is good for getting around Dunedin and is comfortable, offering a nice little bar if you fancy a drink, though activities like swimming might not be feasible. Dining options are limited to pub opening hours, and facilities are decent without any standout features.
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On the positive side, the rooms were nicely heated, although they didn't match the online pictures and had very thin walls, making it noisy. The cleanliness was top-notch, but the disappointment led us to leave one night early even after paying for it.
